Reception and Year 1

In Reception and Year 1, spelling is taught directly through our systematic synthetic phonics scheme, Read Write Inc.

Year 2 – Year 6

From Year 2, spelling is taught through a morphology-focused approach using the Spelling with Grammarsaurus scheme. By focusing on morphology, children will understand how words are built from meaningful units such as roots, prefixes and suffixes. Children are taught to identify patterns within words, enabling them to make connections between vocabulary and spelling.
