This week in Science Club, our Year 4 scientists have been exploring the fascinating process of dissolving. Using a mix of Skittles, M&Ms, and Smarties, the children investigated how different sugary shells react when water is added. By carefully arranging the sweets on plates and adding water, they watched as the colours diffused to create stunning, multicoloured patterns. It was a brilliant way to see simple chemistry in action!

Year 3 took part in a live Assembly with explorer Robert Swann OBE direct from Antarctica. They learnt about the conditions in Antarctica as well as the effects of climate change. The children were also introduced to the 2041 project which aims to protect Antarctic for future generations.

The reception children had lots of fun learning about keeping our ocean's safe. They learnt a poem about the sea, made bookmarks for the book fair competition linked to the oceans and outside the children had to try and clean up the 'sea' by getting the rubbish out of the water. TThis week the children have also been learning about snails and they explored the sand and made spirals of sea snails.

During spring term we have been learning how to keep ourselves healthy . We explored healthy foods by looking at a balanced diet and finding out where we get our food from. We looked at why exercise is so important to keep us healthy and created our own exercise circuits during outdoor learning. We learnt all about how to keep our teeth clean and what happens when we visit the dentist. We also looked at how we can keep our bodies clean.

This week, in Science club, the children learnt that all liquids have a property known as viscosity. A thin liquid like water has a low viscosity and flows easily, whereas a thicker liquid like ketchup has a higher viscosity and so flows more slowly.

The children initially followed diagrammatic instructions to build circuits using a range of components before trialling their own circuits. We heard from a pilot, an engineer and an air traffic controller about their day-to-day roles at work and the skills needed for their jobs. The pilot was particularly impressed by our classes being named after aircraft!
